Boomi refers to the technique for producing yarn from the fibers obtained from the bark of the ramie plant (Boehmeria nivea). The yarn is spun and joined by hand. The Miyako Islands of Okinawa Prefecture are home to both the growing of ramie plants and the production of ramie yarn.
