Beautiful, durable and strong washi, the Japanese paper, is an essential material for use in the restoration of cultural properties. Made from natural materials, it is also drawing global attention for its environmentally-friendly qualities. The papermaking process depends on the availability of precise and sturdy tools. Handmade washi, an important part of Japan’s cultural heritage, exists because of these tools.
